6 Lessons
This module, targeted especially to individuals working in the court system (Judges, Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors, and staff of Opioid Intervention Courts), will provide an introduction to opioids, Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), overdose, and the medications used to treat Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). It will start with an overview of opioid pharmacology and describe how opioids affect the body and brain. Then it will describe Opioid Use Disorder, including the diagnostic criteria, and outline the different kinds of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder—Methadone, Buprenorphine, and Naltrexone—and how each of these functions in the body. It will also outline the risk factors and tools for the prevention of overdose.
